Drivewear®

Drivewear®, lenses combine a polarizing filter with photochromic technology to improve vision across wide range of conditions encountered in driving.

Most Americans now spend considerable amounts of time in a car. We commute in cars, we run errands in cars and we take a car to virtually all of our activities.  Driving involves using our eyes in a wide range of visual conditions, including low light, overcast, bright sun, and high glare.  No current lens improves visual function in all these conditions.  When Younger Optics worked with Transitions Optical, Inc. to create Drivewear®, our goal was to create a lens that could improve visual function across the full range of conditions encountered behind the wheel.

Drivewear® offers prescription, plano and recently expanded its line by adding a flat-top 28 in hard resin that aims to meet the wide range of visual conditions that drivers encounter. This is accomplished by marrying Younger Optics NuPolar polarizing technology with Transitions Optical photochromic technology. Drivewear lenses are able to sense and react to a range of light conditions both outdoors and behind the windshield of the car. In addition to glare and excessive light protection, Drivewear enhances red and green traffic signal recognition.

Younger Optics now offers two videos with information on Drivewear lenses; a 60-second looping  video for the patient waiting room, and a three-minute Drivewear training video for eyecare professionals. The first explains the benefits of Drivewear technology at the consumer level, showing and explaining how Drivewear lenses react in real life situations, from driving in overcast and daylight conditions to boating and bike riding outdoors in bright light conditions. The second adds important information about complimentary marketing materials available through Younger. Both videos come in DVD format and are offered at no charge.

Polarized Lenses

From the moment of reflection, light becomes polarized and forms visual noise - blinding glare that interferes with the real image. The only way to eliminate this glare is to place a polarized lens in its path. This fundamental principle gave birth to polarized eyewear. Polarized lenses enhance the most important function of prescription eyewear - improvement of visual acuity. It is the result of polarized lenses' special attribute - ability to block blinding horizontal glare. No other lenses or treatments can achieve this result. Younger Optics created a proprietary technology to match the polarizing film curve with the front curve of the lens in both single vision, multifocal and progressive lenses called NuPolar®.  In 1996 NuPolar was awarded the prestigious Award of Excellence by the OLA. It is the first and only sunglass lens to receive this honor.

Younger Optics introduces another effective tool to show the true advantages of polarized lenses - its
new Glare Demonstrator
It realistically demoonstrates the
effects of glare and the performance
of polarized lenses. Like other value-added features, polarized lenses require explanation to the consumer.

Kodak CleAR

KODAK CleAR™  and YOUR EYES™
Anti-Reflective Coating

High performance and great looks come together
The proprietary top coat repels dirt, grime and fingerprints and makes cleaning a snap. Distracting reflections are eliminated so your patients’ eyes shine clear and bright.

Light shines through for sharper vision
With ordinary lenses, approximately 10% of light is reflected away and doesn’t reach the eyes. With KODAK CleAR Coating, 99% of available light reaches the eyes.

Stands up over the life of the prescription
KODAK CleAR coating is rugged enough to resist cracking, crazing and peeling. Plus, it provides durable protection against scratches

Special Transmittance of Lens Materials

The only all-in-one industry source of information about UV, visible, and infrared transmittance of lens materials is available through OLA. This valuable reference resource provides information for most commonly used lens materials and treatments – index of refraction, Abbe number, and density; visible light transmittance; UV radiation transmittance, infrared transmittance: which lenses pass ANSI Z80.3 requirements for non-prescription sunglasses; and which lenses pass ANSI Z87.1 requirements for welding filters. Updated information on this valuable material will be distributed as new lens materials are developed.
